Eddie & Agnes Returns in December with Shawn Colvin
Decatur Metro | October 21, 2012After a long respite – those two Civil Wars concerts and the Book Fest must have exhausted poor Daren Wang – Eddie & Agnes is back!
On Saturday, December 8th, Eddie Owen returns to Decatur to present Shawn Colvin at Agnes Scott’s Presser Hall! Colvin is touring in support of her latest album, “All Fall Down”. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and are available for purchase at www.eddieowenpresents.com.
After the jump, a short summary from the release regarding Colvin’s latest effort…
On All Fall Down, Shawn Colvin’s third Nonesuch disc, the singer-songwriter enlisted as producer her longtime friend and occasional band-mate, guitarist Buddy Miller. The sessions, at Miller’s home studio in Nashville, Tennessee, were distinguished, as Colvin describes them, by a kind of back-porch bonhomie. An open-door policy encouraged drop-ins from a number of stellar musicians, including singers Emmylou Harris, Allison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Jakob Dylan as well as fiddle-player extraordinaire Stuart Duncan. The easygoing atmosphere, however, did not prevent the incisive Colvin, on these 11 new tracks, from examining some hard cold truths. The material often took shape with Colvin performing live in the studio, singing and playing acoustic guitar, and the tracks were then subtly embellished by an impressive ad hoc combo Miller had convened, featuring Bill Frisell on electric guitar, Viktor Krauss on bass, and Brian Blade on drums.
I can’t tell y’all how excited I am to have a part in Eddie’s return to the DEC.
Is this a solo show or will she have a band? I used to see Shawn when she took over for Julie Miller as the girl singer in the Buddy Miller Band at City Limits on Sheridan Square in NY when the city was a little wrapped up in the Urban Cowboy craze about 30 years ago. Most memorable evening was a very late set when she sang with Southside Johnny and Odetta. There were plenty of other memorable evenings at City Limits back then; a scene from the Peter Bogdanovich flick They All Laughed was shot there. It became a regular hangout for the cast and we’d see Ben Gazzara, Audrey Hepburn, and Dorothy Stratten in the place. Even better, model Patti Hansen was in it and her boyfriend Keith Richards was around all the time.
She’s solo for this show, although if Keif shows up, we’ll try to accommodate him.
Shawn’s ramblings between songs are alone worth the admission price.
