Thank you Decatur Metro for being my emergency monitor!
Drove through there on Clairmont around 12:30. It was BAAAAAD.
If only we had a rail line to Emory…oh wait. That would not have helped at all.
Well, depends on where the water main break was. If it involved the light rail route, that would be stymied as well as car/truck traffic. But if not, say if involved one of the other 3 corners of the intersection, then the train would be the only vehicle with a clear path to make it through the stopped traffic. Right?
A subterrainen light rail station near that intersection would probably be impacted during the active leak. Once the leak was repaired service would resume. However, the continued blocking of at least one lane would continue for vehicular traffic for a longer period of time while the road was repaired.
Yes…for your argument, the light rail would not have helped during the active leak, but I would argue the inconvenience would be less for the riders than for the drivers and the light rail would add an option to commuters.
But it’s a gas break as in boom. Train would be stopped too.
Oh, yeah. I was mixing up my utilities–gas, light, water, sewer, whatever. So even if it’s a teeny, weeny little gas pipe that’s breached, there’s the potential for a big BOOM!!!! if a motorized vehicle goes by. But walk or roll could probably get through. Telework (or teleclass in the case of Emory) is another alternative. We need more employers and supervisors that truly support telework–not just in words but also in tech support and deeds. The reality is that folks get annoyed if you are not sitting in your office in the flesh at the very second that they have the urge to talk to you…
………one more thing that could be added to the mythical Plan B–bigger incentives for appropriate telework and more penalties for unneeded sittinginertlyintheoffice work.
Any updates? Thinking of leaving work soon and this intersection is on my way home.
Lucky you, JC! You must have a pretty flexible gig 🙂
Yes, please – any updates on this appreciated!!
WSB says 2 lanes open, 1 each way. Traffic still heavy.
Thanks! Time for Plan B! I guess the summer traffic lull is ending with a bang. Back to regular reality….
