Decatur Book Festival to Auction Off Little Free Libraries

From the Decatur Book Fest press release…

Bring a piece of the AJC Decatur Book Festival to your neighborhood. On the Square during this year’s Festi- val, we will host a silent auction of twelve unique Little Free Libraries decorated by Atlanta artists. Think about teaming up with your neighbors to bring a one-of-a-kind Little Free Library back to your neighborhood. It’s a fun way to spread the love of reading and build a sense of community.

Just fill the little library with books and invite your community to borrow a book and leave one of their favorite titles, and then watch it spread. You can find more information on Little Free Libraries, at LittleFreeLibrary.org.

  1. I want one!! Anyone else in the general area of the intersection of Spring and Oakview want to join up to bid? I’m thinking that somewhere near the little pocket park over there would be a great place for one of these, especially with all the foot traffic to and from FAVE when school is in session.

      1. Oh come now. I’ve had more than enough of you Decatur spawners bragging ad nauseam about your precious babies’ intelligence and achievements. Childless myself, I can’t fairly assess that silliness. But dogs I do know, so don’t even pretend like your canine can read Kant or Kafka. You put one of those little libraries in the dog park and my pooches will literally eat your words!

    1. Cool, I’m at third and oakview and would live to join. What does a bid entail?

      1. That is a really good question. I’m going to scout around to see what I can find out online. DM: is there some approved method for allowing posters to share contact info?

  2. I enjoyed looking at the photos of these libraries. Particularly like the one with the slogan: Habitat for the Humanities.

  3. I still want to hear from the people who have experience with them – theft? trash? vandalism?

    1. There’s one on 2nd between Oakview & Hosea, noticed it a few weeks ago. Doesn’t look like anyone is molesting it in any way. According to the website, there are also several in the East Lake area.

    2. I’m thinking one clost to FAV school would replace ” my dog ate my homework” with, “homework is in the little library”

  4. I think one over by the Oakhurst Community Garden would be a great spot too! What a cool idea!

  5. I think the Pete the Cat one would fit perfectly at the dog park:)…but I prefer to see it land in my hood Nelson Ferry area unite!

  6. I would say the kiddie/toy park but really, when would parents of toddlers read. I suppose if they were board books…

    1. No, no, no. When we were frequent users of what is now known as The Toy Park, I would have loved a chance to exchange reading material. Maybe I wouldn’t have read it thoroughly right there, but it sure would have been easier than a separate trip to the library or a bookstore neither of which are good places to bring toddlers, with the exception of the children’s sections.

  7. There is one on Wilton that is absolutely adorable. It’s been there a couple of months at least. I love this idea. Take a book, leave a book.
