Eddie Owen is Out at Eddie’s Attic
Decatur Metro | May 14, 2012I was trying to give the parties involved time to respond, but it looks like the word is out. Eddie Owen announced via Facebook this morning that he was let go from Eddie’s Attic on Friday.
Owen had returned to the Attic last November, after a brief departure.
Note: Eddie’s Attic is a DM sponsor
I’m sorry, but does that article actually say he got “fired”? FIRED??? What. The. Blue. FUDGE???? Are the new owners NUTS?!? Why would they want such bad publicity for a venture they’re trying to keep successful???
(Yes, I do realize most of these questions are rhetorical, but I’m still agog after reading the article.)
Me too. it’s like the old savings and loan firing George Bailey… i do hope they have to change the name at least!
Cooley.
i’m shocked. I wonder if it had anything to do with what he said, or didn’t say, in the Atlanta magazine article? Weird. Cooley may have fired Eddie, but he shot himself in doing so.
As always, i speculate there’s more to this story than what is currently out.
Can the “brand” live on without its namesake? Well, Trade “Joe” left in 1988 — but he retired in good grace. I agree with CB. But it doesn’t sound like an amicable transition story will be coming.
Eddie Owen is the “brand” of Eddie’s Attic whether he’s physically there or not. For this to rollout – without any immediate explanation on the part of the Attic – is a serious PR disaster. Regardless of what transpired that lead to his dismissal, it would have been in the best interest of the Attic to depart ways amicably. In other words, as the beloved founder of the Attic, they need him more than he needs them.
Let the damage control efforts begin or else, I’m afraid, Eddie’s Attic is in serious jeopardy.
Yes. What you said. Many of my best live music experiences and memories have been at Eddie’s Attic. Unless this turns out to be some misunderstanding (and it doesn’t sound like it) I will never set foot in that place again.
Hell, I remember when he and Johnny were running Trackside! What a mess.
If I want to see an act booked there, I’ll go whoever is running the place. That said, it’s gonna have to be a really great act to get me to Duluth, especially on a weeknight.
That’s messed up.
