If you haven’t seen Springsteen’s keynote at SXSW this year, it’s pretty great…

“I tell my kids that they’re lucky to have grown up in an age of reproduce-able technology, otherwise they’d be traveling in the back of a wagon and I’d be wearing a jester’s hat.”
Classic.
The show at Philips was great fun, too. We’re hitting Eddie’s tonight to see the Darkland County crew (especially Dale Watson).
I started reading The Hunger Games this week because I figure my wife will want to see the movie.
DM –
Thanks for this link. Sure is pretty great….
:). Very glad you enjoyed it!
Nothing intellectual or profound to offer.
Guilty pleasure and slightly embarrassed to admit, I’ll be watching The Biggest Loser tonight.
A few nights ago watched a 3 hour special on PBS about the Amish, and was fascinated by it for some strange reason, like couldn’t change the channel, and didn’t answer the phone fascinated!
I heard Chloe Coscarelli on a podcast this week, and now have her book on reserve at the library when they get it in. I’m not vegan but the way she spoke about her food, made my mouth water, and honestly that’s just not the way I previously thought about vegan cooking.

I was about to start a re-read of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” but after reading DM today, I think I’ll be starting “Accidents of Providence” instead.
Yay!
Recently, I’ve been listening to They Might Be Giants, “Album Raises New and Troubling Questions,” and Uncle Green/3 lb. Thrill, “Rycopa.” A few days ago my kids pulled down my old Calvin and Hobbes books from the shelves, so I’ve been reading “Something Under the Bed Is Drooling” and “Weirdos From Another Planet!” by Bill Watterson.
I would like to change my pick for album of 2011 made here earlier, from Fleet Foxes to P. J. Harveys “Let England Shake”. Her best yet.
Reading: Playboy articles, Tape Op magazine.
Creating: WAV files of some music recordings.
Watching: Just finished Boardwalk Empire, season one. Fantastic! Also, watching two murals that are currently being painted near my house.
Playing: Nothing at the moment, but I need to start learning/playing some Ramones songs on guitar so I can participate in a one-off neighborhood band for our upcoming block party.
about half way through the first game of thrones book and i can’t put it down. i’m kicking myself for waiting so long to read these.
STILL reading Chris Matthews’ book on JFK – Elusive Hero. It’s a great intro to Kennedy. We just finished season 2 of Breaking Bad – wow, hooked. Listening to the Little Willies feat. Norah Jones… and of course some good ol’ Grateful Dead.
Nick Hornby’s A Long Way Down. Have not been disappointed in any of this books.
Cheryl, Penguin Books has recently reissued Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity with a cover design by Russ Abbott of Ink and Dagger in Decatur. It’s pretty cool.
Hope to be listening soon: New Shins record released today! I preordered and now I’m not even home to be able to download it.
Reading: The Economist, “Over-Regulated America”. Bought at the airport 3 weeks ago and still unfinished.
Creating: Converting Yellowstone images to B&W.
Saw: Young the Giant & Grouplove @Center Stage. Grouplove was full of excitement and YTG put on a very polished show.
Listening to the new Of Milestones and Moonpies by local alterna-grass band Roxie Watson. They killed it during their CD release parties/shows at Eddie’s the other weekend.
Based on a recommendation by someone here last week, I have been watching Peep Show episodes on Net Flicks. Many chuckles. I cannot wait to get home today to see more.
watching?

Stuck on Richard Thompson (and his ex-wife Linda). For me, the best guitarist of all over the years.
Try “A Heart Needs a Home” from 1975. Not a great guitar song but Linda’s voice is stunning.
Hope you’re enjoying Richard’s later stuff, because it is so much better.
Kate Atkinson’s British crime novels. She has amazing control of points of view. One of her stories was on Masterpiece Mystery last year.
I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in _Case_Histories_. There was familiarity, ease and an understood deception in each of them. The soundtrack was wonderful too — contemporary female American folk and blues somehow fit nicely with Edinburgh’s colors and climate.
