Cat Goes Missing on Hilldale Drive
Decatur Metro | February 15, 2012Brianne writes in…
Our indoor cat Wilson bolted out of our house on Hilldale Drive on Monday, February 13. Wilson is a 13 lb., declawed, neutered black cat. He is very sweet, but a bit skittish. His excursion started just 24 hours after our move to a new house in Decatur. He is likely overwhelmed by his new neighborhood. Any help in locating him is appreciated. Call Ray at or Brianne at .
Put a piece of clothing or something that smells like you outside in your yard or driveway.
I suggest putting a flyer on every mailbox/front door for several blocks around. That way, neighbors can watch out for him getting trapped in a garage or crawlspace, and also know where he belongs. My cat bolted in a brand-new neighborhood one time and I put out about 400 flyers. After several days, she reappeared (freaked out but not starved) and I have always been pretty sure someone found her and dropped her off. Hope Wilson gets back home!
If you didn’t move far from your old house, it is likely he went back there. Cats have an uncanny sense of how to get back to where they think they belong. Flyers are a great idea! and ask people to look in their basements and crawl spaces if the doors have been open. Good luck! Fingers and toes crossed for him to get home.
What an adorable kitty! Hope he makes it home soon. Glad you are getting the word out. The more people who know to lookout for him the better.
Don’t give up hope. When I moved into a new house my cat took off and I was sure he was trying to find his way to his last home. Lo and behold, he appeared four days later unharmed and just a bit hungry. I will keep my fingers crossed that yours returns home soon.
Don’t give up. Go back to your old home and look there, put up flyers, etc. I have known several cats who traveled astonishing distances to “go home.” I hope very much that you will find him soon!
Fingers crossed for the editor-kitty. Keep us posted.
Looks like Wilson is back home safe! This was posted to the Winnona Park listserv:
“Thank you to all of our new neighbors who opened their hearts and their yards to us as we looked for our lost cat over the past few days. Wilson was found this morning in the humane trap we set on our back steps. He was wet and frightened, but now he’s happily purring on our bed. Thank you to everyone who helped with the search. We can’t thank you enough. We are so lucky to have joined such a great community.”
So glad he came back and you got him inside! I don’t know about him being frightened though – he is probably experiencing a cat version of the movie “The Hangover”! Hopefully he will not be at your door soon meowing loudly to get back out -
Yep. I received this email early this morning…
“Wilson came home today! We found him this morning in the humane trap we set on our back steps. He was a little wet and annoyed by the cage, but he’s contentedly purring now. Thank you for all of the kind messages and help looking for him. We just moved to Decatur this week and have been overwhelmed by the kindness of the community.”
YAY, kitty-cat!!! Glad to hear this happy ending.
This makes me so happy. I was worried about him and his owners, especially since it has been so cold and wet lately.
I was thinking “coyote” but didn’t want to say it. Glad the cat came home.
