Vote Decatur for Southern Living’s “Tastiest Town”!
Decatur Metro | December 27, 2011OK, boys and girls, we’ve got our work cut out for us.
Southern Living’s “Tastiest Town” online voting opened a few days ago and Decatur’s only got a little over a thousand votes thus far, ranking us #7 among the 10 delicious contenders thus far. Lafayette and Louisville have huge leads over everyone else currently with upwards of 12,000+ votes each.
You do have to provide your name and email to vote, but once you do, you can vote once a day up until voting closes on January 31st. I’ll do my part by including a link/reminder in all Morning Metro posts from now until then. You can do yours by clicking through and voting for Decatur!

BTW…here’s SL’s more detailed explination for why Decatur was picked…
Just outside of Atlanta, Decatur is an ever-emerging mecca for young foodies who adore pristine farmers’ market produce (from Love is Love Farm and DeKalb Farmers Market, among others) and worth-the-drive restaurants like Cakes & Ale (in a new, expanded location), Farm Burger (find your dream patty here), and the pretty courtyard and stunning plates at No. 246 restaurant.
Decatur is proud but not pretentious–grab a local brew at The Brick Store Pub (best beer selection in the South?) and see for yourself.
There’s only one comment on that website about Decatur. We definitely have fewer food champions. We’d probably win if the measure was most positive change in food scene. I remember when Decatur was very boring food-wise and almost nothing was open on Sunday. (Now nothing is open on Mondays. Good restaurants that are open on Mondays make a killing off of us–fewer kid activities and other distractors on Mondays plus more available babysitters.)
Cast my vote and prompted others to do the same via Twitter and FB. We don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell based on the current voting (my guess is prominent media outlets in Louisville and Lafayette have covered this contest while it’s gone largely unmentioned everywhere else).
If everyone in the Atlanta metro area who loves Decatur voted for us, we could cream many of these burgs (looking at you, AJC and CL).
Let’s figure out a way to get folks voting! What a great way to validate some of the positive changes over the years by being on the cover of Southern Living. We need to show the Decatur restaurants how much we appreciate them!
