Decatur District 1 School Board Candidates Forum – Sunday, October 9th
Decatur Metro | September 26, 2011Decatur District 1 voters interested in school-related issues, you’ll want to block off time on Sunday, October 9th to attend this event! Deanne sends in all the pertinent info…
- When: Sunday, October 9th, 1:30-3:30 (Doors open at 1:15pm)
- Where: The Church at Decatur Heights, 735 Sycamore Drive
Featuring:
- Candidate Peg Bumgardner http://electpegbumgardner.
blogspot.com/ - Candidate Garrett Goebel http://garrettgoebel.org/
index.html - Moderator Geoff Koski, community voice and United States Government and Politics teacher
The Church at Decatur Heights and The Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association are pleased to host this exciting opportunity to hear from Peg Bumgardner and Garrett Goebel, candidates for the District 1 School Board seat on the November 8, 2011 ballot. Geoff Koski, highly regarded community voice and teacher of United States Government and Politics at Decatur High School, will lead what is sure to be an informative discussion on the future of our City of Decatur Schools. A Meet & Greet with light refreshments will follow. All interested citizens are invited to attend!
Just to make sure I’m clear, the choice between these two candidates is only for District 1 residents, right? Those in District 2 will not be casting a vote towards that seat.
Or does it not work that way? I can’t remember.
The District 2 candidate is Julie Rhame and she is the only candidate running for that seat. District 2 residents can only vote for District 2 candidates and District 1 residents can only vote for District 1 candidates. Residents of both Districts can vote for the At Large candidate but that seat was filled two years ago so will not be up again for election for another two years.
Sometimes candidate forums invite all candidates to come speak and interact with the voters, even the unopposed candidates. It’s important for candidates to be aware of voter issues and respond to questions even if they do not have to campaign.
Ack! No slight intended for Julie Rhame. She rocks! For the District 1 Forum we wanted to go with max opportunity for our two candidates to be able to convey their thoughts and ideas. I’ll email Julie right away to invite her to come mingle with folks during the Meet & Greet.
(At Home in Decatur- Next time I’m getting you to help out! You’re good! :0)
Last election, the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association had a candidate forum but it included both the At Large candidate and the District 2 candidate who started out with opposition but then ended up the sole candidate. Not sure whether it is hosting a forum this year.
Thanks DM! You ROCK!!! :0)
I’m super enthused about this event! Nothing beats hearing from the candidates in person, and what better person than Geoff Koski to lead a thoughtful discussion that focuses on the things that matter to the kids, parents, teachers, and citizens of Decatur? Peg Bumgardner and Garrett Goebel have shown their dedication to serving in our schools. Let’s turn out to show our support for their runs for office!
As a very new resident of Decatur, where can I find out which District I’m in? I did check CSD’s website but, if it’s there, I missed it. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to Decatur!
