Decatur Holiday Inn Gets New Name Prior to Renovation
Decatur Metro | June 4, 2011I’m retyping this whole freaking blurb because WordPress wrote over this post with a new one. From the June Decatur Focus (which is not yet online)…
The sale of the Decatur Holiday Inn is currently scheduled to close at the end of May. Originally the new owners planned to keep the Holiday Inn brand name in place while they worked on upgrading the facility. We recently learned, however, that they plan to drop the Holiday Inn brand immediately and operate as the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center during the renovation.
The new owner will upgrade hotel rooms floor by floor and renovate the conference center. The facility will be shut down completely during renovations of the public spaces and will reopen as a Marriott Courtyard.
Based on the schedule we received, this closing should occur after the Decatur Book Festival in September and the grand opening will occur early in 2012. The new owners are looking at what event reservations are on the books so that they can work around those schedules.
” never heard nothing” *giggle*
Ok now that’s just sloppy.
“Umbrage,” not “umbridge.”
I imagine DM was thinking of Dolores.
Indeed.
Got to give the spelling police reasons to keep coming back. Ego gets in the way of click-thrus.
Sorry. Won’t happen again. It’s just an automatic reaction for me.
I empatize, DTR, becoz it is weerd to see such mangled English EVERYWHERES now — menues, billbaords, websytes, newz stories, TV crawlls, advertizements, medicale reports, etc. It is a loosing battle to draw attension to such, but it always catchus my eye too.
Right, I was going to say Umbrage as well. Isn’t Umbridge a character in a Harry Potter novel?
I’m just sad that it’s going to become a Marriott Courtyard. That sucks. I wish it could be something a little cooler.
There’s another entire thread here on that exact subject:
http://www.decaturmetro.com/2011/05/24/decatur-holiday-inn-to-become-courtyard-by-marriott/
prefer “Hotel Decatur” to “Decatur Hotel”
#suchalovelyplace
Seconded.
Not a huge surprise.
I’m pretty sure the name “Holiday Inn” belongs to someone else.
Bing Crosby?
Hotel Decatur: You can check out but you can never leave….
No-Tell Hotel? Spice it up.
So how did this photo get above this thread, which I could have sworn was about the name of the Holiday Inn and what does it have to do with Duane the basketball player?
Oh good. It’s not just me. Mystery loves company.
Is it just me? Or do these comments bear a strange relationship to the EOTS photo?
My guess is someone posted the photo over the text rather than starting a new thread. Scott.
Arrgh. F’n WordPress. I’m not retyping all of that.
OK, I guess I am. BTW…twasn’t Scott.
Darn. Wanted to pick on him!
Tell me about it. Wouldn’t that be awesome?!
My new read from the library:
“The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing The World One Correction At A Time”
These guys set out to fix the grammar & spelling errors on signs in stores, restaurants, etc. across America. Pretty amusing so far…
(I’m guessing they’d use the contact form to email DM with a blog correction.)
It can’t be done. It is a part of our culture now, unfortunately.
Seeing as how I goofed up while giving the subtitle, I think you’re right! :0)
(I think folks usually mean well when they correct stuff. After all, we all want DM to shine! Or maybe I’m wrong that he doesn’t want off the board help either… guess we’ll have to wait for Blog Etiquette 101 to find out!)
I don’t really mind either. It’s good for me, regardless of how much it sometimes smarts.
I just hope folks remember that I don’t have an editor and consider that it might take a personality that doesn’t obsess on grammar – but obsesses about other things – to start and maintain a site like this. If I spent any more energy on spelling and grammar, I’d have burnt out years ago.
Now if the grammarians want to raise money for me to hire an editor, I’m not sure I would turn them down…
Does your software have a spellcheck feature? That would be “somewhat” helpful, but won’t do a damn thing for grammar. Spellcheck is pretty feeble, actually.
It does.
Well, all I can say is all of this talk about the slide of literary imagination and good grammar has reminded me of how AMAZING all of we Decaturonians are! Like, you know, um, AMAZING!!!!!
