Holy cow Decatur had a Louvre Pyramid 9 years before the Louvre!
I M Pei must have passed through on the way to the end of the line at Avondale
What’s that round thing on the top right grassy area?
Elevator
To where? MARTA station underneath?
Yes. And below that, the dungeons.
I thought it was a joke, but I just clicked the link to the source and Udog is right.
An elevator shaft greeted visitors to Decatur’s Square and took MARTA riders to their trains beginning in 1979.
The elevator doubled as a bathroom for the many who would not hold their pee until they got to the restroom in the lower regions of the station. It made for a lovely ride.
You mean the grassy knoll? Looks like something to hide behind.
That Gazebo’s not looking so bad right now.
I long for the glass pyramid. It was simple and dumb but at least it worked.
I remembered the crystal pyramid but thought it coexisted with the bandstand. In fact I was fairy insistent about it today at lunch. oooops, wrong again.
Here’s a better pic of the elevator.
