Decatur’s Wins Second-Place in Marathon Neighborhood Challenge
Decatur Metro | March 25, 2011 | 3:55 pmCANDLER PARK!!! (Shakes fists at the sky)
After taking back the top spot in the “neighborhood challenge” during last year’s ING Marathon, Decatur again must bow to its formidable in-town rival: the dreadfully motivated “Candler Park”. From the Publix Marathon website…
2011 NEIGHBORHOOD CHALLENGE WINNERS ARE:
Division 1 – Marathon/Half Marathon Course
1st Place – $1,500 – Fourth Ward Neighbors/4th & SAND
2nd Place – $1,000 – Poncey-Highland Neighborhood Association
Division 2 – Marathon Course
1st Place – $1,500 – Candler Park Neighborhood Organization
2nd Place – $1,000 – City of Decatur
But seriously, congrats to the Candler Park folks and to Decatur for bringing home $1,000! As mentioned on The Decatur Minute, this cool G will go towards the city’s “Walk There, Decatur!” program.

Congratulations to Candler Park and Decatur..
I especially enjoyed running thru Decatur next to the train tracks and the conductor gave us a nice whistle blow and wave during the race.
Great people in Georgia!
Not that I’m competitive or anything, but I think we need to start planning now how to crush Candler Park next year.
