Thanks to the City of Decatur for the new sidewalk on Mead Road! Not sure about the highway underpass cinder block wallls yet but I’m keeping an upen mind.
Please explain what you mean about the underpass walls and where.
It’s near the corner across sort of from the chiropractor inf rojnt of the blue house with the gargoyle on the roof line.
It’s not gorgeous but I am pretty sure it’s not cinder block
OK, I’m still lost, but I guess I’ll give up.
there was a small section of mead as you head toward oakhurst elementary from oakhurst village that didn’t have a sidewalk…since the sidewalk was not flush with the lawns it butted up against there is some cinderblock-like edging material (for lack of a better description) used. i don’t think it is fully finished so there still may be some improvement but i, for one, am very happy to have a fully accessible sidewalk on that side of the street.
OK, I was confused by the term “underpass”.
I think s/he was just jokin’!
It’s kind of a molded cinderblock. I definitely LOVE having the sidewalk there, it’s just that the city usually uses granite when it makes those type of things. I’m guessing they’ve found that a prefab faux cinderblocky stone look is cheaper.
You wrote “prefab faux cinderblocky stone look is cheaper”, you left out Looks
Retaining wall – wasn’t sure of it either but surmizing it is a necessary need since those yards have nothing holding it back…
I now have a dirt blank front yard and need help with hardscape. Any one recommend someone to give me ideas? Probably will do a small front walkway and small wall and paths to the back yard.
I am working with these guys right now. http://www.angellandscapedesigns.com/ If you call them, I am sure Steve would love to stop by since he is in the area. He does hardscape and landscape, builds walks and patios, etc… and had good recommendations.

I recommend Tim Wolfe. He is a Decatur resident too.

I’ve been following the pre-k issues, as I have a little one who will hopefully be at College Heights in a year or two. I have some questions. If there are 40 children on the wait list, why is CSD considering giving back one of the classes? Also, I thought the new legislation raised the class size from 20 to 22 students, but as far as I could tell, the lottery was held for 180 students (9 classes of just 20 students each). Is that not right? I’m just curious.
That is a good question. I know some slots are reserved for children with an IEP(individual education plan). The big question is though, why would the they take away one class when they knew there would be more demand. I also have questions about the lottery itself and the way it went down. I thought we lived in a more modern society where as a “lottery” could be computer generated not drawn out of a hat!
The class size for next year has been increased from 20 to 22 per class, so we are offering 8 classes next year (8×22=176) instead of the 9 this year (9×20=180).
The City is offering almost the same number of spots as last year but fewer classes.
But why did they get rid of one class if there is so much demand in the community? I’ve never heard an explanation.
My advice: if you can afford private preK do it. State preK (throughout GA) is at the beginning of a long downhill slide.
Any recommendations for private prek in the area?
Well, there are the church preK’s… Decatur Methodist, Decatur Pres, Druid Hills Methodist, N. Decatur Pres, Holy Trinity. They are church sponsored preschools, but aren’t too churchy in their actual day to day preschool programs. Then there’s Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool and the Waldorf School which are not church sponsored programs. Inman Park Cooperative is about 7 miles away.
I have had kids do both College Heights and private preK. They were all equally well prepared for kindergarten. Both programs were great overall, but I found College Heights to be a bit too long and a bit to strict/institutional for my taste, but others love it.
First Baptist and Phoenix School if you need all day care
Phoenix school gives priority to daycare kids. They only have about 5 clots for pre-K any given year, if that.
“5 clots?” They’re giving kids blood clots now?
Does anyone know if they have finished notifying everyone who got drawn for the waiting list? We are on pins and needles at our house.
If they didn’t call you Wednesday, you made it. Felicia called all the parents who were waitlisted.
I was at the lottery. Probably 1/3 of my son’s current class and 1/3 of his close friend’s class were waitlisted. His entire infant room gang of best friends save one child got in. Two children who have been there as tuition kids since babyhood were waitlisted as was half of a set of twins.
Shouldn’t there be some sort of way the kids who have paid tution since the beginning have reserved spots? I know other prek sites have this policy in place. It seems like a very flawed system CSD has put in place for the upcoming year.
The preschool program and the PreK program are pretty much separate programs.
Suzanne did mention at the PTA meeting last night there were 10 families that are currently at CH that are on the waitlist and they are really trying to find a way to get them accommodated. She also mentioned they are going to work to find a way to better accommodate CH families next year (and going forward) in the pre-k process. I optimistically hope/think that means families in the system will get priority but she didn’t use that work or make actual commitments. She mentioned some of challenges they faced as to why that isn’t so now (this year) but I was so amped that maybe it won’t be an issue going forward I didn’t catch everything.
They had a very tough week with the lottery, funding cuts, impacts to teachers. She also mentioned that we may lose some PRE-K teachers to the k-3 program.
I really hope they work out a solution for those 10 families. To have their children pulled for one year makes no sense to me. Those children have developed frinedships with peers and relationships with school staff, not to mention just the familiarity and the comfort factor that children at that age need. Seems to me a disservice is being done with those families, espcially if they live, work, and invest in this community.
Although I do see the point about breaking up long-standing relationships and feel pretty bad about that, wouldn’t it be unfair to the rest of Decatur’s rising pre-k students if most of the pre-k slots are reserved for current Decatur Heights families? Tax-paying families who did not need full-time daycare or weren’t able to secure one of the coveted preschool/daycare spots at College Heights would have a greatly diminished shot at gaining admission to the CSD pre-k program. Either way you look at it, it’s not going to be a fair system for one group or the other.
I think a better solution would be to try to acommodate all the children, which would have pretty much happened if they hadn’t given back one of the classes. I hope there was a very good reason for that.
As another note, the pre-k classes have not always been located at College Heights, and there is no guarantee they will continue to be located there in the future. If the classes weren’t held in that particular building (and they very well may not be in the future – who knows?), I don’t think the argument that current College Heights families should have guaranteed pre-k spots would hold much water.
In recent years, even if the preK classes weren’t physically at College Heights they were still considered PART of College Heights, I guess at least since the reconfiguration.
There are only about 60 slots in the rising preK preschool program, so that would leave about 120 slots even if currently enrolled received a guarantee. A lot of 0-3 parents treat the program as if it is “real school” and get just as involved as parents at “real schools” with room parenting, fundraising, and driving Suzanne just as nuts as the rest of CSD parents drive the other principals! I think those of us who have been there forever see ourselves invested in the school just like parents at Oakhurst or Glennwood or DHS.
As of December, the programs are no longer separate but both completely under Suzanne and CSD’s charge. Even when the YMCA provided the childcare, Suzanne still supervised the whole shebang. It wasn’t like the Y was simply renting space for its daycare. The whole model, one I know Suzanne wholly believes, is that early childhood education is vital and necessary- that’s why we never, ever refer to the 0-3 program as daycare. Really, the programs were designed top work together as part of CSD and the Y was just a contractor.
That’s what makes it so disappointing for the 10 families that are on the waitlist. Well said!
Parents at the Frasier Center 0-3 program located at DHS (which is also part of CSD) are in the same boat. It seems to me that if we are going to provide day care opportunities within our school system, there needs to be some way to accommodate these children for Pre-K (as do many private day care centers such as The Phoenix School).
I do see your point and understand why you and other College Heights families would feel passionate about the program. I think you will find that many of the new pre-k families become equally devoted and involved.
However, unlike Phoenix School and other private daycares that offer lottery funded pre-k classes, CSD is a PUBLIC school system. I think they would be treading on shaky ground if they start guaranteeing pre-k spots to some folks rather than giving each student who applies (and meets the residency and other eligibility requirements) an equal chance of gaining admission.
Also, although I do realize it is a small percentage of the total enrollment, there are students at College Heights who aren’t City of Decatur residents. Would it be fair to guarantee them pre-k spots over actual residents?
Imagine if CSD decided to open a magnet school for the arts, and instead of reviewing each applicant’s creative work portfolio, GPA and interviews, they instead based admission on how long each student had attended CSD and how much money their parents had donated over the years. That wouldn’t be fair, would it? It’s not so different from this situation.
Also, inevitably in Decatur, at least one of the kid’s who are denied admission will have a lawyer with a passion for their kid’s education as a parent. CSD better get a solid legal opinion before enacting any such preferential admission policy.
I am likewise so frustrated with funding issues. The Pre-K teachers are an amazing, amazing bunch, and they are doing one of the most important jobs in the entire world. I try to say it a lot and know I don’t say it enough. I think a lot of folks (not you, Boodle, I just parked under your post) are overlooking the great things going on because they are caught up in the unfortunate parts that are no one’s fault. Rather than giving up, as some seem to be doing, we need to fight to keep all the great things we have!
I encourage people to email the board and superintendent to express their opinion. That way all our voices are heard!
Thank you!! That is great news for us (although I’m still going to be a little on edge until we get official notification that we have a spot). But that is really awful for those existing 0-3 families that got wait listed. I agree with another poster that the obvious solution seems to be to continue with 9 classes instead of cutting back to 8, but I realize that all of this is dependent on the funding cut situation. I also think there must be some kind of way to ensure that a set of twins doesn’t get separated by the lottery. That’s just nuts.
Some $80,000 grant was eliminated. I think that is one reason for the classroom cut. If we as a society – or a certain powerful segment of us- don’t wish to fund social and educational program to the extent we need to, then everyone will suffer.
Seriously, Felicia is really good and you would have gotten a call already. Don’t stress.
I totally agree. In fact, I just did some quick math and $80K divided among 220 registrants is in the neighborhood of $365 each. I would totally be willing to chip in to fund the shortfall and I’ll bet a lot of other parents would too. Our motto could be, “A dollar a day for quality Pre-K.”
My advice to all the moms clogging up the counter at College Heights discussing the lottery etc while holding the pen and sign in sheet: Please move out of the way so people can sign in and out.

Advice for M1: didja try saying something before posting on the Metro?
Diplomacy is dead.
Can anyone recommend someone for gutter de-clogging and deck power wash?
We’ve used Sunshine Windows for gutters, power washing and windows for years and they’ve always been very good; dependable, on time, courteous, and their work has been top notch.
We used Sunshine to clean our windows a few weeks ago and we’d give them 2 Big Thumbs Up!!
Sunshine windows is awesome!
Can I be tacky and ask about the price range? I am not satisfied with my current window cleaner (wouldn’t be me or anything…)
we used sunshine windows a couple years back and i think the price was no more than $150…we have about 25 windows and they wash them inside and outside. plus we always get coupons in the mail for 10-20% off if you schedule them to come in jan or feb (slower months, i presume)…
they were great…professional..on time…i highly recommend them!
That’s all??? Wowo!
Ours wasn’t nearly that inexpensive, but we have a lot of windows and they’re all multi-paned. (if you have plain big windows, it’s a lot cheaper.) Plus we had our hard-to-reach gutters done (and we literally had plants growing out of them!) We paid around $320 but it was worth it.
Looking for some recommendations:
1.) a travel agent in Decatur
2.) a hypnotherapist in Decatur
Thanks!
Alvin Thomas at Decatur Travel – http://decaturtravelagency.com/ Really good guy. (404)373-9493
What’s a travel agent?
If you can find someone who does both, you can have a Total Recall type trip. No passport required, and less of a carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, Owsley Stanley just died. He might have fit the bill.

An agent of hypno-travel.
May be the best obit I’ve ever read. I knew my distaste of broccoli was good for me!
Captain Kirk is my travel agent.
Okay, at least I crack myself up.
Public works dept on Talley St now collects fluorescent lamps and tubes.
That’s great news ! When did they start?
Thanks so much for the info. I’ve been looking for a place to take a bunch of old flourescent light tubes for a week or so and couldn’t find any info online or at local stores.. How did you find out about this and where exactly do I put them? Do you just walk in to ask or is there a bin for disposal?
Public Works said they are expecting a tube cruncher that recycles the contents. He said there will be a bin just inside the door of the public works building. I found out about it when I called asking about the electronic recycling day.
I was told that there were several car break-ins at the College Heights PTA meeting last night.
This, unfortunately, that is true. 2 cars.
The woman at the front desk saw the guy and called the police. Dads took off running and general excitement ensued. I left so don’t know if they caught him.
Yes, the police caught one of the guys and the school has it on camera. Kudos to the dads that ran out of the meeting to stop the thieves and to Ms. Tascha, Ms. Elecia and Ms. Paden for being alert and contacting the police. If there weren’t around the front desk area, who knows how many cars the theives would have broken into.
Boy, that’s really low.
I honestly leave stuff in my car all the time there. Damn those thieves
Electronics recycling day at the high school tomorrow, right?
Correct, starting at 9AM.
Does this recycling event (or any around here) take empty plastic CD/DVD jewel boxes? I have donated some in good shape to Decatur CD but still have six trashbags-full left.
If the cases are in good condition, try giving them to the library. They can use them to repair damaged CDs.
My patience was rewarded. Got my new iPad 2 last Friday and it’s so cool! Thanks to those who recommended I wait for the newest version.
Can I have it? Please? I’ll buy you something at Chick fil a in exchange
We bought one for my mother in law for Mother’s Day and er birthday. I hope she hates it so we can have it.
NO! Mine! Hands off!
And even if I did want to give it to you, good luck getting it out of Mrs. Token’s hands.
I’ll take HER to Taco Mac and ply her with processed nacho cheese and beer until I get it!
you can play with mine while i hold baby. fair?
You have so been holding out on me
And yeah hold the baby all you want! Remember if it happens while you are holding her you have to clean it up.
If you want to feel really smug, check out ebay. Some people look to be bidding $300+ above retail to get their hands on an iPad 2:

I commute to work on DeKalb Ave each day. Often, the traffic lights not working correctly and are flashing yellow. GA is the 5th state I’ve lived in and the only where drivers treat a flashing yellow as a 4-way stop, rather than a “slow down and proceed with caution.” What is with this?
I have no idea why people do this. I commute on DeKalb Ave too and it makes me nuts. This is not some crazy GA law, just crazy GA drivers…
Believe it or not, I think many drivers just want to be courteous. On busy streets at rush hour, those at the flashing red light would be stuck for a long wait if the others didn’t let them through. If you were at the red light instead of the yellow, I bet you’d appreciate the courtesy.
I’ve been on the blinking red side of things as well and all it does is make me extra nervous because I never know whether everyone is going to follow the actual law and proceed with caution or do the “courtesy” stop at the blinking yellow light. All I know is that if I go on a blinking red and get in an accident with someone who proceeded through a blinking yellow, I am at fault under the law no matter what.
Unexpected courtesy equals an accident in the making. I follow the law, which means proceeding with caution. I wish more would do the same. I love the suggestion of ajc home page tips. I also have started talking @ this blinking yellow rule with friends and colleagues- a little viral education can go a long way.
I always feel this way on Dekalb Ave! I honestly don’t think a lot of drivers know what they mean. Georgia needs some PSAs about what flashing yellow lights actually mean!
Most of them really just do not know the law and think that blinking yellow means stop. Several times I’ve been driving with other folks in the car and had them yell at me when I rolled through a blinking yellow light.
Just last week, I was driving down Clifton in front of the CDC. There were two blinking yellow lights just a few hundred yards apart. The “lady” in front of me slowed down for the first one, then slammed on her brakes when she saw a Dekalb County cop car. She stopped so short that I almost hit her but managed to get around her as she laid on her horn and flipped me off. The cop just shook his head as she yelled to him and pointed at me (presumably telling him to ticket me for going through the light). As I was past the second blinking light I saw her stop at that one, too, and another car behind her almost rear ended her again. I guarantee she just continued on her way, all the while cursing the crazy driving of other Atlanta drivers.
Here’s the applicable excerpt from Georgia code. The operable word here seems to be “may.” I interpret this as meaning that drivers may cautiously roll through the yellow light if traffic conditions permit, but nothing that I see here suggests that stopping to yield is prohibited.
O.C.G.A. § 40-6-23 Flashing red or yellow signals
Flashing signal indications shall have the following meanings:
(1) Flashing red (stop signal) — When a red lens is illuminated with rapid intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles shall stop at a clearly marked stop line or, if there is no stop line, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if there is no crosswalk, at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection, and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a stop sign;
(2) Flashing yellow (caution signal) — When a yellow lens is illuminated with rapid intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles may proceed through the intersection or past such signal only with caution.
Yikes! I meant to type “operative” up above.
I too commute on Dekalb and this drives me up the wall. If people didn’t stop at the blinking yellow lights there would be natural breaks in traffic. During these breaks the cars at the intersecting street could proceed. Those who stop at the blinking yellow are actually exacerbating the problem by eliminating any possibility of a natural break in traffic and creating a backup on the main thoroughfare.
And on a related note – GA drivers treat non working traffic lights [no green, no yellow flashing, nothing] as a green light.
Dekalb Avenue is just scary to drive on in general. The suicide reversible lane in the middle – hope everyone’s paying attention! The potholes big enough to swallow your car whole. I secretly believe that the city doesn’t fix the potholes because they act as inverse speed bumps.
Does anyone know a good, independent Honda mechanic? Thanks!
I love Summit Auto south of Ponce on the way to YDFM. They have always been honest and helpful with my Honda1
Avondale Independent works on Hondas on E College has great reviews and the owner has been welcoming and helpful to us as we opened a new shop down the street. 404-296-5900.

Far East Motorworks on Hardee Ave. in Chamblee. They’re great. I could tell you stories.
Summit.
Bob, I recommend Far East Motorworks next to Ptree Dekalb Airport. Gordon only works on Hondas and Acuras. He is crazy popular, though, so make an appt in advance.
Jamie Oliver now has a massive truck that he is driving around the U.S. and delivering educational programs about food. He is asking people where his truck should stop and deliver a program. I registered Decatur as a stop but we need people to vote for Decatur to make it happen.
Being the home of the CDC, I think it is important to support this kind of programming in our city.
To vote for Decatur, go to Jamie’s web site:
http://www.jamieoliver.com/foundation/jamies-food-revolution/truck
There is a truck map. At the top of the map, there is a check box that says “Visit Me.” You will then see a stick pin in Decatur. Click on it to login and vote.
Thanks for your assistance in bringing this great program to Decatur.
Just registered. Thanks for sharing!
How is Decatur home to the CDC? The CDC is in Atlanta, 30333.
Nellie’s right. If we start saying that 30333 Atlanta addresses are “Decatur” then we will have to admit that 30034 and 30035 are also “Decatur”
The CDC is in uncorporated DeKalb County.
Unincorporated, that is. That’s what you get for posting at 3:30 in the morning.
Well….it depends on whether you mean its Clifton facility and mailing address (30333) or its many other campuses (30329, 30341, and I”m not sure what else). For a time, CDC had a downtown Decatur location, 30030, and you’d see folks in their U.S. Public Health Service uniforms walking around. But I don’t think they have any offices in 30030 anymore.
Someone better tell him to stay out of Atlanta. They’d probably ticket him for illegally distributing street food information!
I love Jamie Oliver and his food revolution. I love that you nominated Decatur. But I hope the truck stops in towns with fewer resources and less access to healthy foods/farmer’s markets and nutritional education than we have here in Decatur.
But, if he does swing by, I’LL BE SO HAPPY!
I think Decatur would be a great stop for the truck. Sure, we have more resources than many communities, but we are also the county seat of all of DeKalb, which has a diverse set of needs. What would be really cool is if the truck could come during one of our festivals, when we have both Decaturites and lots of visitors. Hmmm…he’s written several books…
I thought someone posted this info a couple weeks back, but I can’t seem to find it…anyhow, we need a good upholsterer. Not just a re-covering job– these are two pieces that belonged to my husband’s Czech great-grandmother, so they’re pretty beat up. They need the whole 9 yards (re-upholstering and re-covering)! Any recommendations? Doesn’t matter whether they’re expensive, I just want it done right. Thanks!
On a related note, I would like some slipcovers made for a sofa and club chairs. Any recs?
I don’t have a name for you but you could try calling the folks at Decatur Estate / Way Back Antiques at (404) 378 – 4889. They often have antique pieces that have been reupholstered and should have some suggestions.
Custom Slipcover & Upholstery on E. Ponce near Farmer’s Market – (404) 377-952
Easy to work with, great quality, reasonable prices.
Cool! Not the original poster here, but we need this service, too. I love this thread!
Thanks, guys– I’ll follow up!
someone on the oakhurst yahoo group has also recommended larry corn (or son john) of corn
upholstery in tucker. she’s a designer and says he’s the best. thought i’d pass that on…
Question for those of you who have uploaded your own avatars.
How did you do it? I can’t seem to find anywhere on the DM site where one might create a “profile.”
Gotta create one on gravatar.com
Here goes nothin’!
Cool! I was wondering how to do that but never remembered to check it out.
Gravatar? Interesting.
I am new to the city and need a dependable, affordable handyman-type to help with a few home repairs. Any recommendations?
Try Tim The Handyman. He’s a CoD local, too. http://www.homerepairsatlanta.com/
He was prompt, helpful, gave straight-forward estimates, and was friendly and professional. Not to gush but I really feel happy knowing when stuff breaks, he’s a phone call away. Best next thing to my brother in law!
Keath Your Handyman. Awesome, reliable, trustworthy. I’ve used him for years, and I cannot say enough good about him: 404-274-1689.
Steven at DSM Construction is great! We’ve used him for house painting and he did a great job. But he also does handyman work.

Any Recs for BMW repair other than the dealship on Church?
Munich West on North Decatur
I have been taking my BMW to Quantum Mechanics since they opened. Great service and they are honest. Have even sent me back to the dealership to get work done that was still under warrenty.
Hubs works on his own BMW, but tells me he would trust Quantum with it should the repairs ever be out of his realm of expertise. They do great work and are just all around good/cool people.
MBP GERMAN AUTO SPECIALIST at 2868 LAVISTA RD, DECATUR, GA, 30033
Been in business for quite a while, great folks.
Volmaz works on BMWs. We now take ours there and it saves us a ton!
I have taken my ’91 318 to Steve at Munich West for many years and have always been satisfied with the service there. I would NEVER go to the dealership for any work. They are extremely overpriced!
Re. people not knowing what to do when stoplights are flashing (or knowing, and choosing to do otherwise): IMO it ought to be a lot more difficult than it is to keep a driver’s license. I’m pretty sure I haven’t taken either a written or a road test since 1974, even though I’ve lived in several different states. (Possibly had to take a written test when moving from state to state, but definitely haven’t taken one in over 20 years.) I think that every year DMV should pull a random sample of people whose licenses are due to be renewed, and require those people to take the written test and the road test. Might help. PSAs would be a good idea, too, and they should include telling people NOT to perform random acts of kindness by ceding their ROW whenever they feel like it. It gloms up things for everybody else, and ultimately inspires more negative energy than positive!
For many, many years I’ve thought that it would be a terrific idea for the AJC to run a daily driving tip — pulled directly from the DMV booklet. Once they worked their way through the booklet, they could start over from the beginning. Back when people read the paper, I wanted this service to go on the front page. Now, I think it should be on the home page.
I recently noticed that the overhead signs on the highway tell people the law is to put one lane between their car and an emergency vehicle stopped on the road. That’s a good start!
I also think it would serve Georgia to have a stricter test for getting a driver’s license in the first place, to require “written” (who writes these days?) tests every decade, and road tests when young/old (if you’re a “young” older person, the test will be a breeze! ;-). I’m not as bothered by the occasional inconvenience of behavior at a flashing light but I do worry about safety.
I agree! I also think radio stations should run public service announcements on rainy days that the law requires one to have their lights on if the windshield wipers are being used. I have no qualms flashing my high beams or even honking people who don’t have their lights on when it is raining. Stay safe people!
DM, thanks for the mobile enhancements to the site! I can now follow threads indentedly and easily- much appreciated.
Just found out that we’ll be moving to the West Coast for hubby’s new job, so sadly, we’ll be leaving Decatur and our lovely house this summer. Toying around with the idea of FSBO, but will probably end up using a realtor. Anyone have recommendations for a good realtor? We live in Oakhurst. Thanks!
Hate to see you go!
My realtor does a lot of business around here and he knows his stuff.
Bill Shoemaker

Good luck!!
Pam Hughes of Harry Norman…
We second Bill Shoemaker! He really knows the area and was always very helpful. Good luck out west.
Re: Realtor in Oakhurst: Chip Wallace is our neighbor and has had great luck selling nearly everything around us. Seems like a really nice guy.
New subject: I really really think we don’t need a new stadium for Falcons football. What do you think?
Agreed. And if the Falcons think they’d like a new stadium for business reasons, they can pay for one themselves. Public schools, transportation infrastructure, etc.=public goods that are legitimate use of taxpayer money. Building a new stadium = shoveling our money to a private business.
And the dome is what, twenty years old? Not too green, knocking it down and building another.
Oakhurst Market Coming Soon – the sign is up and interiors are underway. While shopping at the Oak Grove Market yesterday, I was told the target opening date for our little market is now May 15.
The Oak Grove Market was a hopping place, so busy folks were eating on the sidewalk out front. Brought home a yummy apple pie (had to taste), beautiful tomatoes, and steaks/chicken to grill today for Sunday family lunch.
I seriously cannot wait for the market to open! I bought a bike with a little basket JUST to ride to it!
My kid is “selling” fresh-squeezed organic Meyer lemonade for $1.00 donation per small glass at the toddler/round and round park starting around 1:15 Sunday. 100% of proceeds go to Japan via the American Red Cross.
Wish we’d been able to get our lemon squeezing into production on Saturday when it was hot. . . .
Outside of Decatur proper but still close…does anyone know what the plans are for the piece of land on Lawrenceville Highway adjacent to Orion Drive? Several houses were demolished and the entire block cleared except for the trees (so far).
