Pure Knead Opening Bakery Near DeKalb Farmer’s Market
Decatur Metro | February 22, 2011 | 12:20 pmLike (or require) the gluten-free bun at Farm Burger? Here’s a press release from Pure Knead posted on the Celiac Disease Community website…
We are *delighted* to announce that our retail shop will open on Saturday, February 26th! A few of the many products you will see include our well-known buns (both original and multigrain), hoagie rolls, rosemary bread braids, olive boules, baguettes and croutons! Of course, you can’t have a great bakery without great dessert!
…We will be open from 9am to 1pm, with both fresh and frozen options for you.
So here’s where to find Pure Knead:
186 Rio Circle, Suite C – Decatur, GA 30030 – 404-377-5567
If you are familiar with Dekalb Farmers Market, we are just down the street. Rio Circle is just off of Laredo Drive, which runs directly into the Farmer’s market. Look for the signs for Southern Sweets bakery; we are located in the same building (Suite C in the back half of the building). Mapquest will find us, so use it if you aren’t from around the Decatur area!

Follow the signs to Southern Sweets bakery to another bakery, really? I wonder how the SS people feel about this plug.
SS bakery specializes in SWEETS, not bread. I can’t wait to go to Pure Knead )
“Of course, you can’t have a great bakery without great dessert!”
Note that Pure Knead is marketing toward the no-gluten customers. I imagine every dessert in SS is filled with gluten. And, competition in the market is good, isn’t it? And then there’s the great bakery at YDFM across the way, too…
I don’t think that competition is bad, I just don’t think it’s cool to use your competitors signs to direct people to your business.
SS does vegan and lactose free very well, but I don’t know of gf from them. Agree that the other bakery should not use SS signs though, awkward. Dr. Bombay’s sometimes has gf baked goods in their counter. …Went to a tea party recently at Dr. Bombay’s- very fun. Good food, shabby chic. Had no idea that other room existed.
As I have a gluten allergy, I’m one to be excited about this. I have been *told* that SS DOES have gluten free offerings (though I have not personally confirmed). I thought to myself, that must be one HELL of an undertaking to keep everything so separate in the kitchen….some people are so sensitve to gluten that even the “dust” from flour (airborne) can cause a reaction…..so I got to thinking….I wonder if there is a symbiotic relationship between the two? As in, I wonder if Pure Knead has been making the gf offerings FOR SS? Just a thought….
It’s actually fairly common to use another business as a landmark for directional purposes. In fact, I’m sure SS doesn’t mind because it’s free pub for them.
BTW – I believe SS has a few gluten-free items. I know their vegan selections are exceptional.
These are two totally seperate businesses. I’m pretty sure PK focuses on things like hot dog buns, hamburger buns, rolls, etc. A big chunk of business is providing gf items for restaurants like Farm Burger and Yeah! Burger. I can’t wait to check them out and see all the offerings.
With all respect to our gluten-free brethren, please tell me this place makes gluten-filled bread, as well. Our side of town has a paucity of bakeries, and the DFM bread, while tasty, isn’t what I’m looking for in a baguette.
Alon’s baguettes available at Sawicki’s.
My wife picks up baguettes from mercantile on her way home. Love them. Don’t know where they get them from though.
FYI, cash and check only for the grand opening.
I am pretty certain that Pure Knead will not (ever) be offering gluten-filled bread, as that would be contrary to their mission, which is to guarantee completely uncontaminated, worry-free options for people with many of the common food allergies (gluten, dairy, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, or shell fish). I am excited to have a place to go get decent food I can offer to my celiac friends so I can have them over to my house more often!
