Yeah, we’ve heard it too on Woodlawn lately. Two years ago we were sitting on our patio and we looked up. There were two of these in a tree about 20 ft above us just staring down. Very cool!
Those are amazing photos! It is wonderful to be able to see pictures of the owl i often hear and have yet to actually see. Thanks for sharing them with us.
The way bird enthusiasts describe the call of the Barred Owl is “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?” It’s called Barred Owl because of its markings. The Barn Owl is much, much smaller.
cool shots! and pretty cute owl, too!
Hootie returns. That’s him for sure.
We’ve heard this owl on Woodlawn every night for the past week or so. Love the Barred Owl’s call! Thanks for the photo as we’ve only heard, not seen!
It’s “Barred Owl”? I thought it was “Barn Owl”.
I used to think this also, but from that injured owl thread over a year ago, I learned that Barn owl and Barred owl are two different types.

Details!!?? What time of day? How high in the tree was s/he? Such a beauty!
It was 6:30 pm. The owl was about 25 feet up in a tree not frightened by the dog or any one us gawking.
Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!

We often saw this owl before we did construction – hadn’t seen it since. Glad to see it is still in the neighborhood!
