Pups Need Good Home
Decatur Metro | December 20, 2010
MAK resident Agape writes in…
A close friend of mine found two pure bred Boxers wandering in her neighborhood south of the airport and was unable to locate their owners. These babes are beautiful, sweet, good with kids, other dogs and cats. They were both recently heartworm tested and are negative, thus they have both been spayed and neutered.
I must have help in finding them new homes. My husband won’t allow us to take in any more permanent pets as we already have one Boxer, three cats and two children. Is there any way you could post a notice that these two beauties are in need of loving homes? I’d love for them to find a home together as they were found wandering together and seem attached to one another. However, if separated I think they would do well with another dog for a companion. They are currently located at Edgewood Animal Clinic on Edgewood.
Here’s a Google Place Page for the Edgewood Animal Clinic in case you need directions!
Extending Fairview Avenue
Decatur Metro | December 20, 2010If you attended the city of Decatur’s Strategic Plan Open House a couple weeks back, you probably spent a majority of your time walking around the room, studying the proposed future development scenarios for Decatur’s commercial districts.
Maps of Downtown Decatur, East Lake MARTA Station, Downtown Oakhurst, and East Decatur Station decorated the walls of the room at Agnes Scott, giving residents the choice between two potential development scenarios: one denser than the other.
However, the most interesting proposal on any of the maps is the one I’ve illustated above.
The denser of the two Downtown Decatur scenarios showed the redevelopment of Gateway Homes – perhaps in the image of Allen Wilson? – and an extension of Fairview Road from West Ponce de Leon Avenue down to West Trinity Place.
DeKalb’s Bond Rating Falls
Decatur Metro | December 20, 2010Over the weekend, the AJC reported that Moody’s had downgraded DeKalb’s general obligation bonds “from Aa3 to Aa1 and another $20 million in appropriation-backed debt from A1 to As2.” (I’m not sure how to interpret that, since this Wiki entry shows that Aa1 is actually a higher rating than Aa3.)
Aa3 AND Aa1 still qualify as “High Grade” bonds, but this does mean that DeKalb will be paying more interest to bond holders going forward. The downgrade was attributed to DeKalb having to dip into reserves to cover expenses the last two years, according to the AJC.
Conversely, a couple weeks back Decatur announced that Standard and Poor’s had upgraded Decatur’s bond rating to AA+.
