DM’s “Decatur: There’s a Festival For That” T-Shirt Now on Sale

The insanely long wait is finally over.  After absorbing months of cat calls and heckling, the first, official Decatur Metro t-shirt is finally here!

As any DM-addict can tell you, the brilliant catch-phrase “Decatur: There’s a Festival for That” comes from the minds of the first-name wunderkinds “Russ” and “Dave” in a moment of random collaboration way back in late 2009 during the “Describe Decatur in 6 Words” discussion.

And it was all uphill from there!

Lauren and Marcia at Lampe-Farley brought my vague concept of festival line drawings to life in design and Patrick at Decatur Screenprint turned the whole dang thing into tangible, organic objects ready for your discretionary consumption.

Now I imagine one or two of you are thinking “I like festivals and tolerate this website. How do I get one!?”

Good question, disgruntled reader!  Your easiest option is to get yourself over to our BRAND-NEW WEBSTORE, where you can purchase the Men’s/Unisex tee online for just $18 (w/free shipping for a limited time!).

But if you’d like to try it on first or you’re looking for a more fitted look OR want to flaunt your festi-love during the dead of winter, our fitted “Ladies” and “Kid” tees along with long-sleeve versions are currently on display and available for you to try-on and purchase at Decatur Screenprint (located at 340 West Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA).  We plan to make these other options available for online purchase, but it’ll be a few weeks.  I’ll keep you updated.)

All details and joking aside, I hope you like it.  This shirt was a long-time in the making and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Marcia, Lauren, Patrick and my wife (who continually endures and responds to a never-ending, unfiltered list of my “ideas”).

  1. This does not make the Master, I mean Mr. Jobs, happy.

  2. Love ’em. Think I’ll get some for all the family back home. They’ll be on the streets of Galway and Amsterdam by Christmas!

  3. This is great, but has anyone taken the time to realize the possible ramifications from this? What happens when you’re out walking down Ponce and you see someone in this shirt? You’ll have a pretty good idea that this person is a DM reader. But then you’ll wonder: ‘which screen name is it?’ Is that NB, DEM, cuba, Walrus, LeftWing, or any of the other regulars?
The shirts look awesome. All I’m saying is think about whether or not you’re ready to potentially surrender your DM anonymity before wearing one.

    1. I have certainly considered said predicament and I will purchase one, but only wear it when I am out of town!

    2. I think so many folks will be wearing them that anonymity will be preserved. I have already started thinking of everyone for whom this will be a perfect gift. The rich chocolate brown should be popular with both males and females. So that person wearing the shirt and talking about CSD may be me……or it may be a teacher, friend, relative, babysitter, PTO volunteer, student, etc. that I gave one to.

    3. Also know that DM registers about 2,300 “return visitors” everyday. So, while there are a few dozen commenters, there are a lot more silent addicts out there.

Also, I’ve heard and seen a lot of Facebook love for it (which I really appreciate!), so you don’t necessarily even have to be a DM reader to know or purchase one!

    4. I was thinking something along those lines too! Don’t need anyone letting anyone letting the air out of my tires while I’m running errands! But given what DM said, it would be hard to pinpoint exactly who is such and such I guess.

    5. Gosh! I was thinking it’d be cool if we all added our own little identifier patches! It’d turn every Decatur event into a super fun spot ’em game!

        1. THAT would be WILD!!! Like a red & blue splattered wild west shootout!!!

      1. I thought the same thing when I bought mine (wearing it lovingly now). Hello My Name is Altmod. . . .

        1. Isn’t it funny how some people here yearn to identify themselves and get away from the Metro anonymity?

  4. Thanks for all the love!

As a slight aside, I’ve been sorta shocked at the positive reaction to it OUTSIDE of Decatur- as I’ve had a handful in my own possession for a while.

These are people who don’t know a darn thing about Decatur, but just have an affinity for all the items on the front. Pretty darn cool for a 20-something in coastal FL to tell her friend to come look at your shirt and then have her friend say, “You know, I really need to visit Atlanta.”

  5. Little point: The on-line store doesn’t seem set up to let me buy more than one shirt in more than one size. You may be missing out on potential volume shoppers like me.

    1. Yeah, it’s a little tricky but I think it’s possible. You have to choose 1 size at a time, but once it’s in the cart you can change the quantity. Also, if you hit the little red “back button” arrow on the left side of the window – or the “Home” link at the top of the page – when you’re in the cart, you can go back and add another size, adjust the quantity accordingly, etc.

      Hope that helps!
