Wells Fargo Comes to Decatur
Decatur Metro | October 18, 2010I’m sure many of us have noticed that all of the permanent Wachovia signs around Atlanta in recent months – from stand-alone ATMs to individual branch signage – have been replaced with temporary covers, often with a titillating line of exposed red at the edges hinting at the future. Rrrrrrr.
Well, apparently some of those signs were just too big to cover over in preparation for the big Wells Fargo reveal later this month. And while the large sign atop the Wachovia building at Atlantic Station got the AJC treatment for it’s makeover this past weekend, Decatur’s own Wachovia building also got a sign makeover late last week with very little fanfare.

I noticed it yesterday. It’s very… yellow.
Maybe it will help us mentally prepare for the next large yellow sign?
Hah! You just had to poke the bear(s), didn’t you?
I noticed it during the beer festival too. I don’t know why I found it so jarring.
Saw it on Saturday too during the beer festival. It’s really poorly done, just ugly yellow letters with no design! They are red and yellow but used no red, bad choice.
Maybe they consulted with the Decatur Diner on the color scheme.
Nice…kept meaning to snap a pic of this when I noticed it last week. I’m actually looking forward to the red and yellow scheme just because it feels more, dare-I-say, “western,” and just a bit different from what we typically see from branding firms these days. I also applaud the company for using only LED lighting in all of their new signage, saving a considerable amount of energy. I wonder if anyone has assembled a collection of photos of this location (including all past brands). I took an unspectacular moonrise one a few months ago before Wells had released the official date for the changeover, since I knew the sign could theoretically disappear at any point: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mentalize/4844972787/. Then I realized I had a more interesting one here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mentalize/4474394499 and the backside of a sunset here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mentalize/3396350737. There are probably more that I haven’t tagged and/or Flickr’d. Maybe HamWithCam has an assortment of high-quality ones.
Wait until you see the large red branch signs – they really do assualt the eye. They’ve already converted the airport ATMs…
I haven’t switched banks, but this is my fourth bank name since I started with Georgia Federal many years ago: Ga Federal – 1992 to First Union – 2001 to Wachovia – 2008 to Wells Fargo
Welcome to Wells Fargoland.
Never had great dealings with them, nor know anyone who has. I’ll stick with USAA
Great photos, Carl. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Isn’t that the same building that had the huge letters on it many years ago that said “Decatur Federal” that you could see for miles away?
Yep, same building.
Just refi’d with Wells Fargo and had a very terrible experience. This is our third mortgage/refi and it was such a bad experience compared to our previous experiences that I was simply shocked. I know in these economic times all of this business has gotten much more difficult, but come on. Common decency and basic customer service are still important. I am telling everyone I know!
Don’t forget to tell everyone about all the great experiences you have with other businesses!!!
