There is a “For Lease” sign in front of it.
I saw some guys from Family Dollar looking at the space.
Bad troll!
At least their logo would coordinate w/Mcdonald’slogo
Noooooooo!!! Family Dollar- y’all stay put by our neighborhood!!!
I picked up food there a few nights ago and saw a closed for renovations sign on their door. The employee I spoke with said the restaurant had been sold and that they were informed renovations would take a month. They weren’t sure if was going to remain a Chinese Restaurant or turn into something else. Pretty sad, I loved their lo mein.
This bums me out. While Jin Jin was fairly unexceptional Chinese takeout, it was plenty tasty and VERY reasonably priced. Although it did frustrate me that they wouldn’t do some of our favorites, like chow fun or ma po bean curd.
Can anyone recommend a replacement? We did Pyng Ho for a while and they have a slightly more ambitious menu, but they’re ridiculously overpriced for the quality they’re providing, IMO. Magic Wok is okay.
we always order chinese from hunan dragon in the strip across from publix, behind the chevron/mcdonalds, and we love going to the place next door to hunan dragon, Yami sushi. cheap, great and quiet!
Upon finding Jin Jin closed yesterday, hubby took the brood to the China Buffet in the Big Kroger shopping center. He liked the prices and said the food was pretty good.
They’ve been willing to do a tofu request for me (subbing it on a meat entree.) Pretty tasty. Sure is nice to combine a takeout pick-up with a Big Kroger run! Glad to hear it’s still good because now I’m craving it!
* Chinese lunch specials complaint: Why can’t they look out for the non-meat eaters too? Everything comes w/ an egg roll w/meat in it & a wing- no substitutions!
Ask for spring roll and leave the wing out.
I keep running into polite no’s. Can you recommend a restaurant that’ll do it? I’ll go there!
I agree. China Buffet is pretty good and reasonably priced.
How is The Golden Buddha? What’s the best local Thai restaurant?
The best is probably something outside of Decatur but the new Garlic Thai is pretty darn good. It’s where Little Azio’s used to be.
For excellent Thai try the east side location of Spoon on Moreland near the great ice cream place.
Not sure why it’s never crowded, but I LOVE Siam, on the square. Almost as good as Bangkok.
Not near the city limits, but Fortune Cookie at Loehmanns Plaza gets my vote.
We still miss New China Buffet, the homey neighborhood hangout on Scott Blvd. The owners and staff were absolutely lovely people, and they had more vegetables than the average Chinese buffet. (It was my go-to place for bok choy cravings.)
I know someone who used to deliver for Pyng Ho. He emphatically told me “don’t eat there!” i always ordered from the Hunan Dragon when I lived across the street and it was always really good. Golden Buddha is, in my opinion, very average. I never understood why that place is always so packed. A friend of mine got violently ill after eating at Fortune Cookie one time so I’ve never ventured in there. Good Chinese is hard to find!!!
Ditto on the Golden Buddha; it’s like when I go to small town Alabama and the most mediocre Chinese and Mexican restaurants are packed. Don’t understand why one inside the perimeter would draw such crowds. As for Thai food near Decatur, I’ve always liked Top Spice at Toco Hills, especially for lunch. They are a little pricey for dinner. Love their spicy catfish.
Top Spice delivers to Decatur area, something a lot of folks don’t realize. It’s pricey but perfect for when you have visitors but are too exhausted to cook anything impressive. The freebie Savvy Shopper always has decent coupons for Top Spice but they are for dining-in only, not pick up or delivery.
Karass,
Is the Savvy Shopper a mailer?
I don’t know what the definition of a mailer is. Savvy Shopper is like a multipage newspaper insert but independent and shows up unsolicited in my mailbox ab out once a month. Unlike some others which are full of carpet cleaning and oil change coupons for businesses I’ve never heard of in locations I never plan to go, a good 5% of Savvy Shopper coupons are for establishments I actually patronize occasionally. I usually clip around 5 coupons per issue, although I have to admit I probably only use about one per year. My family is hard to herd to particular locations in particular time periods.
