First Sketches of Beltline’s Eastside Bike Trail

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such nicely manicured rail lawns before. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a rail lawn before!
A bit of general verbal description from the same Mr. Wheatley…
Project officials last Thursday night told CL that the path won’t simply be a sloppy concrete snake tossed down willy nilly. It will feature phased-in plantings and landscaping. Space for the arboretum and a future light-rail or streetcar transit system will be preserved. Access for pedestrians and the disabled, including ramps, will be placed along the segment.
He also has a bunch more pics – of varying quality – over in his Fresh Loaf post. Beltline officials tell Thomas there will be three or four public meetings to discuss the bike trail’s design in September.
Whoever took the iPhone photos of the trail designs should be ashamed. Ashamed I say!
I’m sure he his.
Oooh this looks like one of those picture games in a kid’ s magazine.
“What’s wrong with this picture?”
I found invisible pantograph lines and a missing railing for that 20 foot dropoff.
What can you find?
I’m curious as to how the rails are supported. I suppose they could be on triangular shaped concrete.
Architectural renderings almost always look better than what is actually built and maintained.
How close are we to having actual rail as part of the Beltline Project?. I realize that I could check the site to find status and timelines, etc. and I did actually do that several weeks ago, but I got lost among the progress reports of studies completed and purchased land. It was difficult to determine (just from the website) if there remains a viable plan to actually have rail along this Beltway. Or is it still in a “let’s figure out if we can do it phase?”
This is in no way a dump on the Beltline folks – I’m sure there are PLENTY of hurdles to cross; I just couldn’t tell if the main obstacles to an actual railway were still preventing progress. It’s great that there is work happening to build trails and parks. This Eastside Bike Trail will be a great addition. Thanks, Kaiser and the PATH foundation for contributions.
Just looking for the quick overview on the status. Thanks. (Worried this had lost momentum after that lawsuit about the school taxes being used for the project…)
– Guy who should probably take more time to figure out what is going on…
A couple years ago I stumbled across the high level project timeline, which had the northeast quadrant of rail being operational in 25 years, and the rest of the
loop complete in 50 years. I stopped paying attention to the beltline after that.
I hope my great grandkids get to experience the exasperating delays, rampant panhandling, and graffiti that the new transit system promises to deliver this century.
Is that woman fixing to commit suicide? or is she just on her cell phone?
The St. Charles trolley line in New Orleans runs down a grassy boulevard. You can see what it looks like at:
