Joe Truex Named as New Watershed Chef
Decatur Metro | May 18, 2010From John Kessler’s Food and More blog…
Today Watershed restaurant in Decatur announces the appointment of chef Joe Truex as its new chef and operating partner. He replaces Scott Peacock, who left the restaurant in February after 11 years, to pursue a documentary film project and begin working on a memoir. Truex, who has run Repast restaurant with his wife, Mihoko Obunai-Truex for the past four years, will assume the position June 1.
Both Truex, who currently resides in Decatur, and managing partner Emily Saliers relay to Kessler that changing up the menu more frequently will be a key component of evolving the restaurant in a post-Peacock era.
Watershed has an official press release on their website.
For even more info on Truex check out his now former restaurant Repast’s menu HERE. Additionally, Kessler wrote an extensive profile of Truex for the AJC just this past March, after traveling with the chef to his hometown in Louisiana.
I think this bodes well for Watershed. I’ve been mostly very impressed with the food at Repast and it seems like Truex is just the right chef to liven things up a bit at the Decatur institution.
The LG and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Repast a couple of weeks ago, and it was terrific. We introduced ourselves to Joe after our meal and ended up chatting for about twenty minutes. I can’t think of a better new chef for Watershed.
This all sounds very good but I am withholding judgment until I see which font he uses.
My husband and I went to a Simple Abundance cooking class with Joe Treux headlining (this is the program via Atlanta Food Bank and Chef’s Warehouse where chef’s donate a class and the class $$ goes to the food bank)– he was fantastic. Delicious disches, excellent food philosophy, great narative by Joe, contagious enthusiasm, and best of all, he just seemed like a down to earth guy you’d have fun hanging out with. I’m excited to see where he takes Watershed.
Anyone know what will happen to Repast?
