Superintendent Reinstates Fifth 3rd Grade Class at Clairemont
Decatur Metro | May 11, 2010In a note to 2nd grade parents at Clairemont Elementary on May 7th, Decatur’s Superintendent of Schools Phyllis Edwards announced that she would reinstate a fifth 3rd grade class at Clairemont Elementary that was slated to be cut in the coming school year.
Citing a letter that she received from parents at the end of April and ongoing evaluations by CSD staff, Edwards notes that rising 3rd grade class sizes continue to vary between schools and “because that situation is continuing, I have authorized a teacher be hired, thus creating five 3rd grade classes at Clairemont.”

This seems like a good response from CSD to a valid concern, right? I’m kind of surprised that there’s been no comments.
It’s human nature to say nothing when you are happy and complain when you are not. Predictable. Kudos to Dr. E for doing this… even though it’s not at my kid’s school.. I like to see smaller classes.
You are right. Kudos to Dr. Edwards for doing this.
