Confirmed: Farm Burger Owned & Operated by Athens’ Farm 255
Decatur Metro | February 23, 2010UPDATE II: Menu details, again from Farm 255 owner Olivia Sargeant…
a simple menu, including other proteins such as chicken and pork and lamb (also pasture or forest raised, and from our regional farmer-partners). there will be salads and vegetarian options, chef-driven sides and condiments like “marrownaise” and housemade ketchup, kid-friendly fried things like onion rings and okra, and seasonal veggies too. organic milk milkshakes and root beer floats and the like…things that make us all happy.
farm burger will be beer & wine only and like all new places we will cross our fingers that the powers that be award us our coveted license in time for our opening, as we’ve done our due diligence. beer will be like-minded to our food and highlight local folks, artisanal methods, and unique offerings. the can will be ubiquitous, as it’s less wasteful and more fun.
UPDATE: Here’s a response I just received from Farm 255’s owner…
farm burger is in fact farm 255’s sister operation, sourced from the same farm(s) and built on the same foundations, principals, and spirit. farm burger’s partners are george frangos (also GM, cc’d above) and jason mann, who is one of farm 255’s owners and our farm director.
our burgers will be made from 100% grassfed beef, dry-aged for two weeks and ground daily. our cows are raised on southeastern pastures, and never fed antibiotics, hormones, or grain. our menu will be seasonal and sourced from local farms as well. we will be more casual and economical than farm 255, well-suited for decatur’s various constituencies.
opening is slated for early april, and we’re thrilled to become a part of the decatur community.
Decatur Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne confirms that the coming “Farm Burger” is owned by the fabulously popular Farm 255 in Athens, Georgia. Says Menne “Yes it is.” ‘Nough said.
A bit more about Farm 255 from its website…
Farm 255 is a restaurant that seeks to reconnect food to its roots & people to their food. We serve local, seasonal, & sustainable food for supper nightly. In addition to the Farm we manage Full Moon Farms, an organic/biodynamic animal and vegetable production farm in Athens. Unlike the owners of any other restaurant we know of, we are the folks sowing turnip seeds in the morning and cooking turnip greens in the evening. We supplement our harvests with those of other local family farmers and ranchers that avoid harmful chemicals and practice sustainable agriculture. Our menu, based on seasonal shifts in the field, changes as often as the weather. Our meat comes from pasture-raised animals & is hormone & antibiotic free. We raise most of our own livestock, and utilize whole animals & all the various cuts of meat throughout our menu.

sweet! we enjoyed a lot of great meals from farm 255 while i was at uga… i think the sort of atmosphere there will fit in perfectly in decatur..
I also loved eating there while at Georgia. And it’s reputation has held up over the years, which gives me confidence that Farm Burger will be a winner as well!
We stumbled into Farm 255 a few years ago during an Athens weekend getaway- fantastic. I agree with James, right up Decatur’s alley. I hope they bring their bar with them as well– the canteloupe martini I had was delicious!
Any establishment that can incorporate fresh canteloupe into a martini is definitely worth patronizing…what a great way to get your daily fruit servings in!
happy meat–*smiles*
check the post above for an update with a note I just received from Farm 255’s owner and an opening date.
Can’t wait!
Sounds great.
I enjoyed the farm while I was living in Athens as well! Can’t wait til April!

This place is going to kill it. I just know.
I am glad to see that they’ll have a veggie option… place looks fab, and I look forward to giving them a try.
I Loved Farm 255! I ate there during last year’s Bike Ride Across Georgia and was hoping for something closer to Decatur. Hope to have my birthday dinner in April at Farm Burger! If it’s not ready by April 25th I’ll have to drive to Athens.
