MetroFresh Offspring Coming to Decatur?

February 5, 2010 | 3:54 pm

In a post on the beautifully formatted Atlanta Magazine site, the Covered Dish blog ladles out some potentially delicious news.

In the next 18 months, MetroFresh owner Mitchell Anderson plans to open three new sandwich locations, called “MitchWich”, around the ATL.  The concept?

MitchWich will feature a 1,000-1,500 square-foot floor plan with a “warmer and woodsier feel” than MetroFresh but with a slightly different design for each location. Anderson has worked with a brand development firm over several months to develop the concept that will continue his food philosophy without duplicating the style of Metro Fresh. It will serve a breakfast and lunch menu focusing on sandwiches made with quality, organic ingredients, along with some soups and salads crafted by Anderson and his executive chef, Byran Kraatz.

And amongst the contenders…

Initially, Anderson is looking at neighborhoods such as the Fairlie Poplar district, Westside and Decatur because of their proximity to MetroFresh.

I’ve only been to MetroFresh a couple times, but I was pretty impressed. The upscale sandwich concept sounds promising, as nothing has truly filled that niche for us since 5th Earl burned. I hope they do decide to come here. The languishing Atlanta Bread Company site would seem like the obvious choice.

Completely agree. I’ve actually begged them to come to Decatur. They were coy about whether they had an interest. MetroFresh is not just another sandwich place or Tossed or Tropical Smoothie but has a healthy, creative menu with truly original, tasty and wholesome food with enough variety to please most.

    Now *that’s* a name!

I love MetroFresh and honestly could not be more excited at the idea of them expanding to Decatur and also the Fairlie Poplar district. Excellent news.

Totally agree with all the above! I regularly go to MetroFresh and love it: great food, great space, wonderfully friendly and happy vibe. I think they would be a great fit here.

Metrofresh has wonderful food. Decatur has lost a beloved sandwich shop in the last couple years which hasn’t returned – Fifth Earl. I would be so happy to see a sandwich shop here with the same great flavors that Metrofresh offers!

So, really, nobody has any comment about the name “MitchWitch”? Poor Sammiches can’t catch a break, now this.

I can’t stand this name and it’s no where near as descriptive or inspiring as MetroFresh. I wish they’d keep that name or modify it, e.g. Metro Freshette.

Maybe they’re omitting Metro from the name through fears of a Grange style naming rights showdown with Decatur Metro….

Oh, good point. In fact, Decatur Metro stands to make a bunch of money suing MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Association), the French Metro system, The Met (opera house) in NYC, etc. Go for it!

Gladys they can call it whatever they want as long as it is good food (that isn’t Thai) served by someone who knows how to run a business…all I can say is “Welcome to Decatur”!

Please just choose a location with easy access to parking.
As a mom with two small kids I find myself not going to certain places as often as I’d like bc there is no place to park.
My vote is for the 5th Earl location.

      Alpharetta has plenty of parking.

Wow! That’s the neighborly spirit, why not point out that her children will grow up to have parking issues themselves.

          They probably will.

Um…Pardon my pointing out the obvious, but if redeveloping the former Fifth Earl space was easy, Fifth Earl would still be there. You do know it burned, right?

I hope this is true. Would love MetroFresh/MitchWich/MetroFreshette in Decatur. If they were to open in Decatur AND Fairlie Poplar, I could eat there 7 days a week….not that would be amazing.
