On Thursday, October 29th, Andrea Berry’s Decatur edTV will host three, count them THREE, school board candidate forums in Westchester’s Board Auditorium.  Valarie Wilson, Rob Pope, Marc Wisniewski, Garrett Goebel, and Bernadette Seals will all be participating.

The forum will be moderated by David Hughes and Lew Lefton.

6:30 pm to 7:20 pm

Doors will open at 6:20 PM to allow those interested in attending the District 1, Post A Candidate Forum [Wisniewski/Goebel] to be seated. This portion will run from 6:30 PM to 7:20 PM.

7:30 pm to 8:20 pm

Doors will reopen promptly at 7:20 PM to allow those interested in attending the At‐Large Candidate Forum [Wilson/Pope] to be seated. This portion will run from 7:30 PM to 8:20PM.

8:30 pm to 8:50 pm

Doors will reopen promptly at 8:20 PM to allow those interested in attending the District 2, Post A Q&A Session since there is only the Incumbent [Seals] on the slate. This portion will run from 8:30 PM to 8:50 PM.

This is a great idea and I hope everyone attends, not just parents but the whole community. The moderators are incredibly funny and witty in themselves–hope they give themselves a chance to speak (neutrally of course). Anything sponsored by Andrea Berry from Decatur EdTV is going to be high quality and interesting. No matter what your position on the candidates, if any, the forum ought to be enjoyable. School Board candidate forums are one of those Decatur traditions that makes us unique. Kind of a town hall meeting without the nastiness (I hope!).

Not to mention that everyone’s got to vote in the election on Tuesday, November 3. No vote, no complaining afterwards!

I hope we get a big turnout. This is an important opportunity for the public to ask questions and hear responses from our elected officials. You are all encouraged to submit questions in advance by emailing them to decaturschoolboardquestions@gmail.com
