Where Have All the School Board Candidates Gone?

October 7, 2009 | 2:20 pm

I’ve now heard this rumor twice today.  CSD Snowflake sums it up nicely for us in a previous comment…

My understanding is that the School Board contested positions are down to four candidates in two races:

District 1: Garrett Goebel and Marc Wisniewski

At Large: Rob Pope and Valerie Wilson

Bernadette [Seals] is running unopposed for the District 2 seat. Everyone else must have dropped out.

If this is indeed true, what the heck happened to Elizabeth A. Hagberg, Carla Melissa Anderson, Judith Lomas, Alan Greenberg, Stephan Yurman, Dr. Catherine W Carter, and Mildred Thompkins?

Why register if you’re not going to go at it whole-hog?  As an anonymous tipster points out, registering and not actively running “just put non-serious candidates on the ballot and confuses the issue.”

Maybe time to up that $35 registration fee for the School Board.

I suspect that these folks saw an opportunity, didn’t really know who else was running and said what the heck it’s only $35, maybe I’ll be the only one who files or it will be an open seat.

When they found out that the incumbents were really running they dropped out.

It’s a labor of love anyway, because if i recall, they are paid $ 15 per meeting.
