Amanda Thompson Profiled in Sunday’s AJC

June 21, 2009 | 10:29 am

And I’m not talking about a little blurb.

I opened the paper this morning to find an extensive profile of Decatur’s dancing, city planner Amanda Thompson. As noted through example in the article, Amanda is the go-to person for many of the city’s most contentious and complicated issues, such as zoning law and transportation.  Despite the challenges, she remains unfazed..

“How does she do it?”, people wonder.  Well, now the whole metro-area knows.  She has a first passion that serves as her release at the end of a long, wonk-filled day: dance.

Amanda mentions how she likes to keep her work and art separate, but after this article, I bet she’ll be answering a lot more questions about her dance group, Zoetic Dance Ensemble, down at city hall.

For all us artists out there with day jobs, cheers Amanda.  The secret’s now officially out that you rock.

Go AJC! People often are very demanding of Amanda (particularly developers and residents involved in some of the historic district issues), but she just seems to move right on through it without a complaint. I daresay her heavily scheduled life keeps her more focused and more productive. We’re very lucky to have her! I’m actually doing a focus group on Zoetic this week; funny how life events sometimes coincide.

Recently, Amanda has adopted another part of the Decatur lifestyle – she lives downtown and walks to work !
