Little Shop Hosts "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" Author Jeff Kinney
Decatur Metro | February 6, 2009Dave at Little Shop writes in…
Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, is coming to Decatur. Little Shop of Stories will be hosting Jeff at the Decatur Rec Center (on Sycamore Street, right next to the Decatur Library) on Wednesday, February 11th, at 4:30. Doors open at 4pm. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, currently #2 on the New York Times best sellers list, is written in the form of a blog / graphic novel. The books, which are enormously creative and fun, are written for kids 8 and up. (By “up,” I mean “UP” — I’m in my 50s and enjoy them.)
Jeff’s books will be available for purchase at the event and always at Little Shop of Stories.
Dave also reports that over 1,000 people showed up to hear author Greg Mortenson a couple weeks back. Wicked!
Highland Inn Damaged By Fire
Decatur Metro | February 6, 2009UPDATE II: The Highland Inn comments below and confirms that they are still open for business!
UPDATE: 11Alive reports ” The fire caused damage to four rooms and other rooms have smoke and water damage.”
I’m hearing reports of a fire at the Highland Inn in Poncey-Highlands this morning. Looks like David is too. He’s reporting “extensive smoke and water damage.” Also a mention by someone on Yelp.
I hope the damage isn’t too bad. Atlanta can’t afford to lose any more historic landmarks. Below is a pic I found on Flickr. There’s a second photo here.
In case you’re not familiar with the building, here’s a photo I took of it back in December…
Harmony Park Canteen
Decatur Metro | February 6, 2009Carl thinks this concept of chef Todd Richards’ is probably looking to open in the old Calavino’s space…
The crew is working on a new project in which we are gathering funding. The restaurant is named harmony park canteen. Our plan is to place it in the Oakhurst community of Decatur Georgia (still Atlanta metro area). Harmony park is a small plate venue w/ great food and spirits.
…In this plan we are also starting a farm named Bluefoot Inner City Fruit and Vegetable Patch. The organic farm will supply this project and another acquisition (confidential agreement, can’t name names) with most of the produce. All produce not used will be sold at farmer’s market and/or donated to inner city schools. Some have asked where has this idea come from? I can not take credit for it. I found inspiration in my good buddy Sean Brock. Here is a link to his site (http://www.seanbrock.wordpress.com/).
Menu can be found here.
Sounds good! Always love the local concept.
