Decatur's New Chinese Food Restaurant

August 29, 2008

Rus is good enough to send in this pic of our newest Chinese food restaurant, Jin Jin, at 614 Church Street.

Hope its good!  My wife won’t let me go back to the Chinese food restaurant in the Kaplin plaza on Clairmont since they’re health inspection rating fell into the low 80s last year.

I hope they’re good too!! Less than a mile from home, I’ll be a semi-regular. Diet Buster!

Until then, there’s always Frank Ma South (mmmm!)

They’ve got menus at the door now if anyone wants a preview. Looks like pretty standard Chinese fare. They don’t use MSG and only cook with Vegetable oil, so that’s nice. I only see one typo which is pretty good too. :)

Keep forgetting to post this … Jin Jin opened for business this week!
Haven’t tried it yet. If someone has been there please report.

Went this weekend. VERY GOOD! Fresh, hot, decent service. Not crowded yet. Good portions and good prices. Highly recommend trying. No delivery yet, no liquor license. Clean, comfortable, nice, good.

I just dined in decatur at raging burrito’s new raging taco. I was surprised in their parking lot that they offer validated parking inthe lot beside their back patio. Great news in Decatur. Their taco spot is attached to raging burrito and the room(formerly Azul bar) has been completely redone in fun warm colors with festive decorative masks all over the wall. The server said they are just opening but will have alot of taco specials soon. She also said that they are doing a slow opening and are only open on wed, thurs, fri, and saturday nights for now. i had the 3 taco plate with a salad(served with their tasty thai peanut dressing)for only 6.95. I choose the baja fish, pork carnitas with fire roasted salsa, and the shredded beef. These are the best tacos I have ever had. The flour tortilla is toasted so it is not doughy like many in town. The baja fish taco has cabbage and pico and a spicy chipotle sauce. The other 2 were also very tasty. I enjoyed it so much I thought I should help spread the word. Enjoy! William

Sorry William, but your post reads like a shill to me, especially since you went out of your way to post this in an unrelated blog entry and clicking on your name leads directly to the Raging Burrito site. If you want to promote your new restaurant, be up front about it.

Plus, chipotle sauce on a fish taco = wrong.

My wife and I finally tried Jin Jin last week and thought it was pretty good. We got the chicken with broccoli, and will definitely return to try a couple more things on the menu before coming to any ultimate conclusions.

P.S. They aren’t just takeout…they also have a dining room.

I think we’ll be doing Jin Jin tomorrow night. Not sure in or out, but I’ll post a report. You’re right, I didn’t realize there was a dining room until I stopped in to pick up a takeout menu.

Yes, definitely let us know Steve. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the staff were all quite friendly…plus the space is very clean. Their setup gives the customer a good view of most of the kitchen…

Did take out this evening at Jin Jin. Generous portions (glad I only got a small soup). Acceptable prep and taste – a little light on the salt, but better that way than the other. I’ve had worse (and less) and paid more for it. Definitely worth a repeat, especially since we’ve not found and other Chinese to our liking anywhere near Decatur since Yen Ching.

I also noticed that the food was less salty than usual Steve. But as you said…better that way than too salty! Also, I forgot to mention that our chicken and broccoli was bursting out of its container…so yes, generous portions.

I just tried Jin Jin and it is good. But I do have to defend my old stand by in Kaplin Plaza on Clairmont that someone earlier said got an 80 on their health inspection. I went by the store to get a pick up and check out the score and they now have a grade of 96 posted.

I just moved to the area and tried Jin Jin tonight for dinner. It was great! The food was made fresh, extremely generous portion sizes. The broccoli in our food was not overcooked and soggy and the fried rice was made to order (not sitting in a huge vat). I would definitely recommend it!
